What We’re Seeing at Dublin Theatre Festival 2019

Dublin Fringe Festival may be over but the festival season is still in full swing! This year’s Dublin Theatre Festival programme is jam packed with the very best of Irish and international theatre. Here’s a taster of what the PopBaby team are seeing:

1.The Bluffer’s Guide to Suburbia is a scathing and nostalgic fusion of gig theatre and stand-up, put together by a crack-team featuring PopBaby collaborators and faves Ray Scannell, Tom Creed and Jack Phelan. It was a smash-hit at Cork Midsummer Festival and is selling fast in Dublin – get in while you can.

2. Pasolini’s Salò Redubbed – We love Dylan Tighe’s work so we’re super intrigued to see how he transposes Pasolini’s controversial epic to Ireland. With a killer cast and a unique, killer concept, we expect this will be unlike anything you’ve seen this year.

3. In Mám by Teach Damhsa, visionary choreographer Michael Keegan Dolan brings together an amazing cast of dancers, legendary concertina player Cormac Begley, and contemporary/classical collective s t a r g a z e to form a multi-talented super-cast.
If their last hit, Swan Lake, is anything to go by, then tickets will be like gold-dust for this limited run!

4. Burgerz – an important piece of queer theatre by performance artist and activist Travis Alabanza, which we loved at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. This show has sold out everywhere else it’s been on so don’t miss your chance to see it on home turf!

5. Playboy of the Western World at the Gaiety, reimagined by director Oonagh Murphy and a brilliant all-female creative team. With stunning set and costume design by Molly O’Cathain of MALAPROP Theatre (recipients of one of our Where We Live commissions for 2020), we can’t wait to see this new take on Synge’s classic.

DTF runs until 13th October – all tickets and info athttps://dublintheatrefestival.ie
