Well folks, that’s Fringe over for another year. What an absolute cracker – so much talent and passion on display. The POPBABY team had a super successful Fringe, with multiple Fringe awards, nominations and sold-out houses.
CAGED – WON Judges Choice Award for Best Duo and nominated for Best Production
Produced by Associate Producer Carla Rogers and created by Jade O’Connor and Kate Finegan who are FemmeBizarre (you may have seen at Popbaby nights – YESTIVAL 2017 and WERKHOUSE 2018) with Jennifer Jennings as mentor.
OVERFIRED – WON the Outburst Queer Fringe Award
Also produced by Associate Producer Carla Rogers. This was created and performed by Stefan Fae and Lady K, and was directed by TIPB collaborator Tom Creed, who will direct, I Am Tonie Walsh in November at Project Arts Centre (have you got your tickets yet?!).
BOY CHILD – Sold Out Run! Nominated for Best Performer
The incredibly talented Deirdre Molloy (our Touring Company Manager) directed Boy Child by Dagogo Hart and Felispeaks. They had a sold out run and FeliSpeaks (aka Felicia Olusanya) was nominated for Best Performer.
ASSISTED SOLO – Best Production, Best Design and Best Performer Nominations plus 5 star reviews
And last but by no means, least, Phillip Connaughton (Popbaby Associate Artist) presented his gorgeous dance piece Assisted Solo, which was nominated for Best Production and Best Design, and Magali Caillet was nominated for Best Performer for her role in it.
Huge congrats to all of the artists involved, to Ruth McGowan on her first festival – what an achievement! and to the rest of Ruth’s hard-working and dedicated team. Looking forward to the 2019 iteration already.
