Throughout the year, behind the scenes, in rooms all over the city, we run a number of workshops and script readings to develop new work, and it looks like 2019 will be breaking THISISPOPBABY records. This kind of development is essential to our process of making new work, and the 2019 development programme is funded by the Arts Council, Dublin City Council and supported by Cork Opera House, FringeLab, the Civic Theatre and our POP HERO Patrons.
In April, Phillip & Jenny ran an incredible workshop with Composer Alma Kelliher, movement director Philip Connaughton and an amazing group of multi-talented magic makers from the worlds of theatre, dance and circus in order to explore our next big multidisciplinary show. Details are currently top secret (and insanely exciting)…watch this space #WAKEtheShow
In June, director Tom Creed led an exploratory workshop with writer Mark O’Halloran and performers Kate Stanley Brennan, Liam Heslin and a special guest appearance from a squeaky inflatable bed. This unmissable new play is coming to theatres around the country near you soon #ConversationsAfterSex
In July, Jenny worked with choreographer Philip Connaughton and composer Oberman Knocks to explore a new production of the award-winning Australian play – SHIT by Patrica Cornelius – with the absolute powerhouses that are Aoife Duffin, Aisling O’Meara and Kate Stanley Brennan. Special shout out to the amazing women from Focus Ireland who came in to give us a ‘context talk’ #SHITthePlay #WhereWeLive2020.
We had previously announced our commissions for #WhereWeLive2020. See more info on these here, and over the next six months we will be facilitating readings and workshops for these.
If you’re interested in supporting the development of new work, increasing audience access to the work, and becoming part of the THISISPOPBABY family, please consider becoming a POP HERO patron here. Benefits definitely apply.
