A WOMAN IN PROGRESS

A Woman In Progress marked THISISPOPBABY’s debut at Dublin Theatre Festival in 2009.

“Your first encounter with the phenomenal drag queen Panti is a little like suddenly discovering a new planet in the solar system.”
– The Irish Times
“(Panti) is an entirely engrossing and charming presence, at once implacably brazen and unexpectedly vulnerable.”
– Irish Theatre Magazine
“Original and honest…very funny…sharp, tender, raw, revealing.”
– Irish Independent

1970s Mayo, a boy with a mind of his own yearns for a world he’s not sure even exists. He doesn’t know where or how to start looking but the Pope’s visit to Knock convinces him he has to try.

This was a sharp but poignant stand-up show, where Panti traced her journey from small-town boy kicking against the uptight traditions of rural Ireland, to towering plastique woman in wigs and false lashes, railing against the death of the gay culture that saved her.

Following the massive success of All Dolled Up and In These Shoes? Ireland’s first lady of drag makes her first appearance at Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival with this much anticipated new show.

A Woman In Progress was a Project Arts Centre commission.
