This sparkling glitter ball of a tent played host to our favourite drag queens, the best in Irish electropop and very special guests Le Gateau Chocolat, Marawa, Ebony Bones and DJ Jerry Bouthier. We also introduced The Poptopian Bureau of Desire and Disorientation, a neon-tastic late night live art experience.
THISISPOPBABY presents POPTOPIA
POP has constructed the shape of a post-revolutionary society. Floating above ground, the inhabitants of the skewed megastructures of the POPOPOLIS discard the shackles of the bourgeois metropolis. Fantastical humans dance from one dynamic zone to another in search of new sensations. They move to the beat of the scintillating grid, recreating and procreating patterns of INTERFERENCE. Memory becomes irrelevant as perspective is distorted in a hyper-architecture of desire. Play and disorientation the ultimate goals.
"Top thing to see at the Picnic this year."
- The Irish Times
"The three-days-and-nights love-in from the THISISPOPBABY crew is here for you to...wow over"
- Jim Carroll, On the Blog
Jenny: The first real wet-weather conditions at Electric Picnic. It was tough - during the load-in we had to pitch our tents inside the big top - but some outstanding moments of theatre magic made it all worthwhile. Personal highlights include Heidi Konnt's Kate Bush collaboration with Anúna; Panti interviewing Louis Walsh and Irvine Welsh; and the crazy late night madness of the neon bureau, complete with seagulls and ballerinas.
Phillip: Mega weekend. So many highlights, with only the rain as a low light. Whatever about the many magic moments of Poptopia, I will never never never forget the seven hour drive home! It was funny in it's own way. Oh yeah...and my guilty pleasure Damian Dempsey was deadly!
